Cherry blossoms on the ground, Washington Square Park (Taken with Instagram at Washington Square Park)
Just got a box of NYX makeup. Can’t wait to try it out. The lip colors are a bit brighter than I’m used to, but time to move out of the comfort zone. I’ll do some swatches later and show all the colors.
Rainy Wednesday. Walking through Times Square after work. Reminded me of a conversation I had with a couple of tourists in my nabe on Greenwich Ave. I’ll detail later. It’s sad and funny and so stereotypical.
Today seems to be obituary day here at Angelaelle.
I used to watch reruns of the Monkees on Saturday afternoon when we got home from piano lessons and dance classes. Being 10 years old and an easy laugh, I thought they were absolutely hilarious. Davy was my sister’s favorite (because he was small) and I liked Mike (because of his omnipresent ski cap and bad attitude).
Every once in a while I find an episode when I’m channel surfing and always stop to watch. They’re still hilarious. That crazy weird humor withstands the test of time whereas old shows like Maude or All In The Family that heavily reference current events that are long forgotten are virtually unwatchable.
Anyway, here’s one of my favorite Monkees songs, I Wanna Be Free:
This is my friend Gisela, lounging on her terrace in the 1980s:

I met her in 2003 when we moved into our current building; she was a member of the co-op board and did our board interview. She was a character dressed in her own style sourced from a combination of her own 1970s closet and Joyce Leslie, wearing gold wire jewelry animal pins and crazy rings and bracelets she crafted herself and sold in various museum gift shops. I created an e-commerce website so she could sell her jewelry online.
She led a colorful life, and lived it exactly the way she wanted. I’ll miss her greatly.
Very surprised to see this sight when I took the dogs out this morning at 6:

I always thought that place looked dirty and gross, but didn’t know how bad it was until I check the DOH website.
University Cafe was shut down by the DOH yesterday racking up a whopping 145 points’ worth of violations. If you ask UC it’s due to “repairing hot water system”. Yeah right. If you ask the DOH, the story is quite different (bold is critical violations that need to be addressed immediately):
Violation points: 145
Establishment Closed by DOHMH. Violations were cited in the following area(s) and those requiring immediate action were addressed.
Sanitary Violations
1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
2) Appropriately scaled metal stem-type thermometer or thermocouple not provided or used to evaluate temperatures of potentially hazardous foods during cooking, cooling, reheating and holding.
3) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
4) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
5) Food contact surface improperly constructed or located. Unacceptable material used.
6) Hand washing facility not provided in or near food preparation area and toilet room. Hot and cold running water at adequate pressure to enable cleanliness of employees not provided at facility. Soap and an acceptable hand-drying device not provided.
7) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
8) Duties of an officer of the Department interfered with or obstructed.
9) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
10) Other general violation.
Interfering with duties of an officer too. Huh. I wish they would be cited for that stupid bike they have chained 24/7 to the light pole on the corner. People use it as a garbage receptacle, and instead of throwing the garbage away when the use the bike they just throw it on the ground. Classy!
I guess this oil they left out leaking onto the sidewalk is also part of the cleanup:

UPDATE:
University Cafe is reopened with the ominous “Grade Pending” sign in the window. It still looks gross inside, and apparently they are no longer open 24/7.
This cat has been trying to kill me. Twice I’ve woken up in the middle of the night with a pillow over my head and Dutch sitting on top of the pillow. I thought that after 12 years we had a relationship filled with mutual respect and admiration, but he seems to have other ideas.
I love this blog!
I just have to say this—I have lost 25 lbs since last Sept., and everyone keeps asking me how I did it, as if I discovered the secret to making plastic into gold or something.
My technique may be revolutionary and I never hear about it in the media. Here it is….Ready?
I STOPPED TAKING IN MORE CALORIES THAN I WAS EXPENDING. And how did I do that? I eliminated all sugar (Sugar is like crack for me!!) . I have breakfast every morning, good sized lunch and a very light or no dinner. So basically 2 meals a day. And I exercise between 4-6 days a week, but I’ve always done that since I take ballet class and run. And the great place where I work has a gym. That helps. But the point is I STOPPED EATING MORE CALORIES THAN I EXPENDED. No special Jenny Craig food. No pills. Definitely no lipo. If I could only find a way to market this and make a few bucks.
